The presence of the Omicron variant makes people worried because the full dose vaccine cannot provide as effective protection as other variants. But studies have shown that using a booster can restore protection. Indonesia itself plans to start a vaccine program booster on January 12, 2022.

If the standard vaccination program is provided free of charge for all Indonesian people, then for the provision of booster there this is a different mechanism. This time, only a part of the community will be able to get vaccine a booster free . The rest have to pay for themselves.

So, the vaccine booster is no longer free for all Indonesians like the regular two-dose vaccine.

This free third dose of vaccine will only be given to the elderly and the public who receive contribution assistance (PBI) from the Health Social Security Administering Body. While the rest have to pay for themselves to be able to get a vaccine booster .

The Food and Drug Supervisory Agency (BPOM) said that currently these five types of vaccines are in the process of being tested. The vaccines are Pfizer, AstraZeneca, Coronavac/PT Bio Farma vaccine, Zifivax, and Sinopharm. The latest news, BPOM revealed that four types of vaccines will get an emergency use permit (EUA) which can be released early next week.

He explained that for EUA the vaccine booster to be released was only homolugous. That means the vaccines booster that are licensed are those that have been used for the first and second doses. So, for example the first and second doses use Sinovac, then the third dose is also Sinovac.

In addition to using a booster homologous (the first to third vaccine types are the same), the government also has a heterologous scheme. In this second scheme, the third type of vaccine given will be different from the first and second doses. Both schemes have been approved by the National Immunization Expert Advisory Committee or ITAGI.
