Apple Launches M2 Chipset, Embracing Graphics Performance and Power Efficiency

After a long rumor, Apple finally launched the second generation Apple Silicon chipset.
The M2 chipset is designed as the next generation of M1 which brings increased specifications, features, and power efficiency.
Apple M2 itself favors power efficiency, computing performance, graphics performance, and support for up to 24GB RAM.
Apple M2 Specifications
In his presentation, Apple explained that the M2 chipset is manufactured with 5nm fabrication.
This chipset carries 20 billion transistors which is 25% more compared to the M1.
Apple M2 carries a configuration of 8-core CPU and 10-core GPU.
Apple M2 has 18% faster computing performance compared to the M1 chipset.
For graphics capabilities, the M2 is claimed to be 35% better than the M1 chip.
The Apple M2 supports up to 24GB LPDDR5 unified memory and has 4x performance cores and 4x efficiency cores.
This chip supports unified memory bandwidth of 100GBps which is 50% faster than the M1 chip
Apple favors the M2 chipset in terms of power efficiency and the resulting performance.
Apple says the M2 is significantly faster at lower power usage rates.
The M2 offers 18% better performance than other chipsets of the same wattage.
Apple claims the M2 is capable of delivering 87% of the peak performance of a 12-core PC laptop chip with just a quarter of the power usage.
The Apple M2 also features an improved media engine featuring a higher bandwidth video decoder.
The chipset supports 8K J.264 and HEVC video and the Prores video engine for multiple streams of 4K and 8K video.
The M2 chipset also enables supported devices to provide image noise reduction.

The Apple M2 chipset is currently available for the MacBook Air 2022 and MacBook Pro 13-inch.
