The Ministry of Communication and Information emphasized that hackers who made SIM card data leaked were not heroes.

The Ministry of Communication and Informatics ( Kemenkominfo ) has given a firm warning to hackers who have leaked 1.3 billion SIM Card data which recently shocked the public.

Director General of Applications and Informatics Semuel Abrijani Pangerapan called this hacker like a hero. In fact, stolen data can harm the public, and can even lead to administrative and criminal violations.

"It's as if it was the hero who leaked it, the data that leaked was also ours," said Semuel at a press conference, Monday (5/9/2022).

He emphasized that hackers like this must be dealt with, even though the data leak incident was also the fault of the data controller or manager.

According to him, so far, personal data breaches have only been seen from one side. In fact, there are actually two namely administrative and criminal. That is why the Ministry of Communication and Information has also asked the Cyber Crime Police to take action against those who leaked the data.

"That's why we invited Cyber Crime, this must also be dealt with. Indonesia is currently experiencing many attacks, we must work together," said Semuel.

Furthermore, he also asked every agency that collects public data to maintain its security. Moreover, at this time Indonesia continues to strive for digital transformation.

The Ministry of Communication and Information, added Semuel, also asked the agency to immediately report to the Ministry of Communication and Information and the public so that anticipation can be done immediately.

"Indonesia is carrying out digital transformation. If there are holes [data leaks] there are regulations, there is cyber security, there are administrative and criminal sanctions. Criminals who commit crimes can be punished," stressed Semuel.

Previously, based on a search for data samples shared on dark forums, Semuel said there was a 20 percent match between the Population Identification Number (NIK) data. However, until now, his party is still looking for the origin of the 1.3 billion data leak.
