iPhone 14 has SIM error

iPhone 14 models running iOS 16 may display the message "SIM not supported", then freeze.
According to MacRumors , Apple acknowledged in internal documents that some ‌iPhone 14‌, ‌iPhone 14‌ Plus, iPhone 14 Pro, and ‌iPhone 14 Pro‌ Max users may see a "SIM Not Supported" message appear. appear on the device.

After this message pops up, the iPhone may be "freeze" completely.

Apple said it was "investigating" the issue, noting that it was not a hardware failure, adding that customers should update the software to the latest version of iOS 16.

While the SIM error has not been resolved, Apple advises customers when receiving the "SIM not supported" message to wait a few minutes to see if the SIM error message disappears or not.
Otherwise, customers should not attempt to restore the device, Apple stressed. Instead, users should go to an Apple Store or an authorized service provider to request technical support.

This isn't the first time Apple has acknowledged a bug in the latest iPhone 14 series.

In the first days and weeks after its launch, the ‌iPhone 14‌ experienced some issues related to device activation and camera shake. Both issues have been resolved in ‌iOS 16 software updates.

Apple is testing iOS 16.1 with developers and testers, with the final version expected to be released later this month.

iOS 16 still hasn't patched the 2-year-old security hole

The VPN security hole that is more than 2 years old on iOS devices is still ignored by Apple.

Since 2020, Proton VPN has disclosed a security vulnerability on iOS devices that could leak data or expose users' IP addresses to users who have used a virtual private network (Virtual Private Network, also known as a virtual private network). called VPN).

Usually when using a VPN, existing Internet connections are dropped, then re-established through an encrypted VPN connection. But iOS does not disconnect pre-existing connections.

At the same time, Mullvad VPN also issued a similar warning. At that time, the vulnerability appeared on iOS version 13.3.

Two months ago, security researcher Michael Horowitz said this vulnerability still exists on iOS version 15.6.

Now, experts say the VPN security hole remains on iOS 16, the latest version of Apple 's mobile operating system .

Specifically, security firm Mysk demonstrated that iOS 16 communicates with Apple software services outside of an active VPN connection on the device.

"Apple services that don't go through VPN connection include Health, Maps, Wallet. Worse, iOS 16 leaks DNS requests," Mysk wrote on Twitter.

Unencrypted leaked data can expose real IP addresses and other sensitive information. VPN users are often people with special privacy needs such as journalists, dissidents, and political activists. This group is at risk if their Internet access information is leaked.

Worse, this data leak continues even when Lockdown Mode is turned on, which Apple advertises as increasing device security for sensitive groups of users.

Proton VPN suggests a temporary "patch" for iOS users. The user connects to the VPN, then turns on airplane mode to disconnect all Internet connections, and then turns off airplane mode. This way, all re-established Internet connections will likely go through the VPN connection.

However, this method is not guaranteed to work, Proton VPN notes.

iOS 16 is still buggy

After 4 months, the Indonesian typing error of iOS 16 is still not fixed by Apple. The problem seriously affects the customer experience.

From the first test of iOS 16, the Indonesian  keyboard error appeared on the iPhone. After many months, this issue has not been fixed by Apple, affecting the customer experience with editing tasks.

Some users encounter errors typing Indonesian  keyboard, Telex code on iPhone after upgrading iOS 16. Specifically, when typing the first word of the text is a Indonesian word (with the characters Â, Â, E, D, U, O, O or accented), the text will be jumped to the character sequence just filled in. For example, when the user types the word "hit", on the iPhone will display as "ddasnh".

Meanwhile, text editing and messaging is a frequently used task on mobile phones. Therefore, the error when typing Indonesian keyboard exists for a long time, disrupting the experience, greatly affecting the user's activities.

Sharing with Zing , Mr. Minh Khoi, an iPhone 13 Pro user who upgraded to the new iOS early, said he felt very uncomfortable with this software problem. "Now I have to live with the flood, I don't know what to do," Mr. Khoi said helplessly.

Worth mentioning, this problem appeared on the first beta iOS update, launched on June 7. To date, it has been more than 4 months, Apple still has not resolved the issue. Currently, iOS 16 has the 6th beta and the 4th stable release. However, many users in Indonesian still have to use faulty keyboards.

According to Mr. Minh Khoi, the situation has improved compared to a few months ago. “Before that, many apps couldn't type. Currently, in the apps I use often, only Telegram still encounters frequent errors", a user in Hanoi shared.

To respond temporarily, users must type an additional character, space before the content. Using a 3rd party keyboard is another way, which can be used to solve this error. However, the typing experience on the iPhone's default tool still brings a familiar experience and supports more features.

Before the iPhone, Indonesian percussion also encountered annoying errors many times on Mac computers after upgrading the operating system. The default Indonesian typing software on iPhone and MacOS is not entirely developed by Apple. Mr. Pham Kim Long, the author of Unikey percussion, donated this tool to Apple in 2006. To date, Mr. Long's name is still on the legal and copyright information of Apple operating systems.

This is not the first time Apple has ignored software bugs, leaving users to solve them themselves. In 2020, many iPhones after upgrading to iOS 14 overheat, drain the battery even when not running any tasks. It was later found that the operating system was incompatible with the old,  SIM embryo. To solve it, users had to go to the carrier to change to a U-SIM. Meanwhile, Apple did not have one. software support actions.

How to turn off annoying features on iOS 16

If you don't like it, users can completely change the way notifications are displayed, disable the power button ... on iOS 16.

When updating to the latest iOS 16 version, users will receive completely new features such as recalling or correcting sent message content, marking unread messages or selecting objects in photos, removing fonts. background background with just one click.

However, according to Cnet , not all features on this version are well received by users. The new search button on the homepage and pop-ups displaying images are some of the most criticized changes by users. Fortunately, most of these features can be easily disabled or removed from iOS.

Change the display of notifications on the lock screen

The latest version of iOS 16 has brought a series of design improvements such as adding widgets, changing fonts, colors, customizing the clock and notifications on the lock screen.

After the update, users will notice that notifications will no longer appear at the top of the lock screen. Instead, they will show up at the bottom and if you want to see more users just click on this area.

However, many people do not like this change. So, if you want to go back to the old lock screen notification on iOS 15, open the Settings app > Notifications > Show as.

Here, the user will see 3 options: Count, Stack, and List. In it, the Count style will display the message as a number at the bottom of the screen. The Stack style arranges the messages as a pane at the bottom. And the message in the form of List will appear on the screen.

To return to notifications on iOS 15, you just need to choose the display type List.

Disable the power button

According to Cnet , users often use the power / volume up / down buttons on the side to wake up or turn off the iPhone screen. But one of its inconveniences is that when making a phone call, users can accidentally disconnect the call when mistakenly pressing this button.

With iOS 16, Apple has allowed users to turn off this feature. In the Settings app, users go to the Accessibility section, then turn off the section Press the power button to end a call. From now on, even if you press the wrong side button when making a call, users will not accidentally disconnect the call, but instead the screen will just switch to lock mode as usual.

Turn off the annoying search bar

Besides, the search bar on iPhone is also a useful feature when it helps users quickly find old messages, quickly open applications in the device or view files, notes and locations conveniently.

Previously, to access this feature, users only needed to drag down from anywhere on the screen, the search bar would appear. But with iOS 16, Apple added the ability to access the search section right on the home page with a small button just above the dock.

However, this button is often mistakenly pressed by users because it is near where they often switch back and forth between pages on the main screen. According to Cnet , users can completely turn off this setting by going to the Settings app > Home screen. Then in the "Search" section, toggle the button next to Show on Home screen to turn it off.

Remove featured photo

So far, Apple's artificial intelligence (AI) has proved very useful in sorting photos or videos on iPhone by destination, date. The technology also selects and displays the images that may be the most favorite users on the top of the page.

However, many users are annoyed when private photos constantly appear on widgets, pop-ups everywhere on the homepage.

On iOS 16, they can easily remove those photos from the Photos widget by going to Settings > Photos, then turning off the toggle under Show Highlights. Now, all images and videos will not show up in the Photos widget on the home screen, search bar, or the For You tab.
