Former Vice President of iPod, Tony Fadell revealed that Steve Jobs had a desire to eliminate the SIM Card slot in the first generation iPhone.
Tony Fadell's statement was revealed when he was interviewed by Joanna Stern in a special event at the Computer History Museum to promote his new book.
Instead of relying on GSM technology, Steve Jobs was more interested in adopting CDMA to connect the iPhone to the tower and cited the use of Verizon technology.
This technology allows supporting mobile phones to connect directly to the operator's network without a physical SIM card.
Unfortunately, the plan was canceled because the adoption of CDMA in the market was too low.
Fadell said he showed Steve Jobs founder Apple that CDMA adoption was too low.
In the end, the iPhone uses the GSM network which has proven to be more potential for its existence in the market.

An unnamed informant shared a document with MacRumors containing information on removing the physical SIM card slots of all iPhone 14 series.
That means, the iPhone 14 Series will be the first iPhone series that does not have a physical SIM card slot and adopts eSIM technology natively.
It is planned that this will be implemented in the second quarter (Q4) of 2022.
Meanwhile, rumors of the removal of the physical SIM card slot on the iPhone 14 were also reported by leaker @dylandkt.
The @dylandkt account also shared a Tweet that wrote that Apple was testing the adoption of eSIM technology on several iPhone series.
